Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) the ruling party of the Maldives has accused former defence minister Colonel (Rtd.) Nazim of corruption. Mr.Nazim is contesting of Adh.Dhangethi constituency in the upcoming parliamentary elections as a candidate of Jumhoory Party (JP).
MDP leadership accuses Mr.Nazim of corruption because a charity foundation owned by him offered to help the constituents in various sectors. MDP filed a complaint about the matter to the Elections Commission of the Maldives, saying that it was against campaign regulations. Elections advised referring the matter to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Mr.Nazim’s party JP is a member of the ruling coalition and his family financed President Solih’s campaign in 2018. Mr.Nazim’s brother Mr.Adam Azim is managing director of Maldives Water and Sewerage Services (MWSC).
Even though Mr.Nazim belongs to JP, most of the MDP members dislike him as they believe him to be instrumental in bringing down the government of former President Nasheed.
