Dr.Shaheem Ali Saeedh the special advisor to the Secretary-General for Organization of Islamic Country (OIC) has stated that he is extremely concerned about the false stories presented in a documentary about the Maldives which was produced by Channel News Asia.
In a Facebook post, Dr.Shaheem stated that the documentary claimed that radical Islamic views took root in the country after religious organization financed by Saudi Arabia started missionary work in the Maldives after the 2004 Indian ocean Tsunami. Dr.Shaheem said that no such organization ever came to the Maldives and said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia does not assist in spreading radical views.
He said that Saudi Arabia has the strongest relations with the Maldives among other Islamic Arab countries. Dr.Shaheem said that he is concerned about the documentary as someone who played a vital role in promoting Islam in the Maldives.
Dr.Shaheem was a former Islamic Minister and the former Chancellor of Maldives Islamic University as well.
