Progressive-Congress coalition has decided to support Jumhoory Party in some constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
According to the leader of People’s Progressive Party (PPM) and ex-president Yameen, the coalition decided to support JP in some constituencies to prevent MDP majority at the parliament.
Speaking to a group of supporters in L.Maavashu via a conference call, the former president stated that if JP, PPM/PNC and MRM contests for the same seats MDP has a very high chance of taking a majority in the parliament. He said that hence their coalition decided to offer support to the Jumhoory Party.
PPM/PNC has revoked tickets of some of their candidates including sitting MPs. MP Jameel Usmaan and MP Abdullah Maseeh were among those whose tickets were revoked. At the same time, JP also withdrew their candidates from some of the constituencies.
Even though JP denies working with PPM/PNC, it has been confirmed that the leaders of both parties met and have come to an agreement.
