Former President Mohammed Nasheed has said that the exclusive economic zone of the Maldives and Sri Lanka should be opened for both the countries.
While speaking at the ceremony held to mark the 71st Independence Day of Sri Lanka, the former president stated that Maldivians know Sri Lankans very well and to further strengthen the relations between the two nations, the exclusive economic zone of Maldives and Sri Lanka should be made accessible for both the countries.
“We have to make Maldivian and Sri Lankan waters accessible for each other. We have to find a good market for fishermen from both the countries. They need to be able to sell their catch in Maldives and our fishermen should be able to sell in Sri Lanka” said Nasheed.
It is not known whether the government of Maldives takes Mr.Nasheed’s suggestion seriously.
