MDP activists on social media expressed disappointment and anger after former Defence Minister Colonel (Rtd.) Nazim’s visit to President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih.
Colonel Nazim met the president today to discuss the issues faced by the people of Dhangenthi constituency. He tweeted saying that he looks forward to working with President Solih in the best interest of the constituency. Colonel Nazim is the Jumoory Party’s candidate for Dhangethi constituency in the upcoming parliament elections.
Various MDP activists replied to Colonel Nazim’s tweet saying that the president should be careful of him as he was instrumental in toppling former President Nasheed’s government in what MDP members describe as a coup.
Another MDP member said that the president should not have met Colonel Nazim since he is contesting for Dhangethi constituency against an MDP member. He said that now if the government does anything for the island before the campaign, Nazim will take credit for that.
Former Defence Minister Nazim has received much criticism from members of the MDP since his alleged involvement in bringing about President Nasheed’s resignation from office on February 7, 2012.
