A delegation from the Commonwealth has arrived in the Maldives today. The head of the delegation is headed by the head of Asia Pacific region.
The Foreign Secretary of the Maldives Mr.Abdul Ghafoor Mohammed met with the delegation today and the purpose of the delegation is to assess whether Maldives qualifies to become a Commonwealth member.
The delegation is scheduled to meet with President Solih, the speaker of the parliament, chief justice, political parties, cabinet ministers, senior officials of the government and the media.
Maldives became a member of the Commonwealth in 1982, however in 2016 former President Yameen’s administration decided to leave the commonwealth. President Solih’s administration has requested to join the Commonwealth again.
