Former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb has been transferred back to prison.
Mr.Adheeb was transferred to house arrest on 28th January after the High Court ordered Maldives Correctional Service to transfer him temporarily. However, the Supreme Court of the Maldives ordered all the relevant state authorities to stop implementing the High Court Order. As per the Supreme Court order, Maldives Police Service took him back to prison around 18000hrs today.
The High Court ordered to transfer Mr.Adheeb to house arrest until the court makes a decision on the case filed by his lawyers. His lawyers have filed a case at the High Court requesting for an order to allow Mr.Adheeb to travel abroad for treatment.
The Supreme Court issued the order squashing the High Court order after the state made a request at the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court’s order also stated that the High Court’s order was issued against judicial procedures.
Mr.Ahmed Adheeb is serving a 30 year long jail sentence after he was convicted of various crimes including an attempted assassination of former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.
