Maldives Police Service has arrested three people today for protesting outside Mandhu College.
The three people held a silent protest outside Mandhu College to demonstrate their disapproval of the disrespectful remarks made against the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by the college’s founder Mr.Ibrahim “Ibra” Ismail.
Although they were protesting peacefully, Maldives Police Service arrested them within few minutes. According to Maldives Police Service, they did not arrest the three people but they were taken to police headquarters and released later.
Senior members of the current administration including President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih claim to be strong advocates of freedom of assembly. However many are criticizing the government on social media after today’s events.
