Former President of the Maldives Mr.Mohammed Nasheed said that the government cannot conduct any developmental projects in Addu City without a parliamentary majority for MDP.
Speaking at the campaign launching ceremony of MP Rozaina Adam, Mr.Nasheed said that the 19th parliament will be a mean for development and that they will ensure proper decentralization. He said that for that to happen, MDP needs the majority of the parliament.
“I know that even the people of Addu will believe that, without a majority for MDP in the parliament, Addu City cannot be developed,” said Mr.Nasheed.
Mr.Nasheed also criticized the previous administration for failing to bring development to Addu City. He said that the parliament elected in 2014 could not pressure the government to develop Addu.
Addu City is a stronghold of ruling party MDP. Five out of the seven MPs representing Addu are from MDP.
