Dr Aishath Muneeza has been included in the global list of Islamica 500, the 500 who make the Islamic economy of 2019.
This is the third consecutive year she has been included in this list.
So far she is the only Maldivian who has been included in this list.
Dr Muneeza is the only female Associate Professor from Maldives who is a globally recognised figure for her outstanding contribution in pioneering Islamic finance in the Maldives as well as her academic research in the field.
She has been the Islamic Finance News Correspondent in the Maldives since 2011 and has been covering the progress of Islamic finance industry in the Maldives globally. She is the only researcher in the Maldives who has published large number of literature about the Maldives Islamic finance industry as case studies.
She had created an impact through her work globally and has innovated unique financial instruments as well as corporate sukuk to develop the Islamic finance industry. She had also designed the Islamic capital market framework for the Maldives.
She was the former Deputy Minister of Finance and Treasury as well as the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. She was the first chairman of Maldives Hajj Corporation. She has authored Islamic finance books which has been published internationally.
